Let's play British Pop
Hello again. Today we are going to practice some British pop by Coldplay.
First, listen to the song 'Viva la vida' performed by German violin player David Garrett:
Then play this accompaniment with your mates, We need at least four people, as we are going to play chords on the recorder, which is a monophonic instrument:

Composers' list

Gracias.

Historical apologies
A few weeks ago, the Mexican president demanded the King of Spain and the Pope an apology for the atrocities commited 500 years ago by the Spanish conquerors. You can read the whole piece here:
https://www.bbc.com/news/world-latin-america-47701876
There is a precedent in Australia: the Prime Minister gave a public apology in 2008 to the aborigens. You can watch it here:
or read it here:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/asia-pacific/7241965.stm
Today we are going to debate about the need of apologies related to events that took place hundreds of years ago. Should the modern governments give apologies for what their nations did in the past?

My own experience with silent cinema
A few years ago I was interviewed in RTVE in regard of my show 'Música en blanco y negro', where I performed live the music from silent films by Buster Keaton and Charles Chaplin:
Ladies and Gentlemen: let's speak about film music
… and let's start with one of my favourites: main theme from 'Gladiator', by Hans Zimmer. The film was released in 2000 and won 5 Oscars out of 12 nominations, including Best Film, Best Actor (Russell Crowe) and Best Sound.
Hans Zimmer is a German composer specialised in mixing classical orchestral arrangements with electronic and synthetic sounds. He is one of the most important Hollywood composers, responsible for soundtracks as award-winning 'The Lion King', 'Gladiator', 'The thin red line', '12 years a slave' and 'Pirates of the Caribbean'.
And don't miss this really interesting interview with the composer broadcasted on BBC:

Introducing Paul Schwartz
Paul Schwartz is an American composer and music producer born in 1956. He has developed a personal style by creating modern arrangements with synthesizers and other contemporary instruments from classical works.
The one you are about to listen to was released in 2003 and is inspired by the famous 'Sarabande' by baroque composer Haendel.

Mozart and Classical Period
'Dies Irae' from Mozart's Requiem has been used in many films throughout History. This is a good example: the opening scene from 'X-Men 2'.
The expression 'Dies Irae' comes from Latin, meaning 'The day of wrath'.
Here is another version, with the lyrics and the music of the choir written:
